Fathers Day

Hard to believe its nearly mid-year!  And winter here in South-Africa is definately approaching us faster than we certainly would like...so before we can think of  "hibernating" we have a few celebrations to look forward to. Apart from my son, Rico's 9th birthday on 10 June - FathersDay are also ahead of us.
I know I haven't posted a Fabulous Freebie for a while so thought Ill share these cool Fathers Day sayings with you all! Enjoy..
Interesting facts - Father's Day was founded in Spokane, Washington at the YMCA in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd, who was born in Arkansas. Its first celebration was in the Spokane YMCA on June 19, 1910. Her father, the Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart, was a single parent who raised his six children there. After hearing a sermon about Jarvis' Mother's Day in 1909, she told her pastor that fathers should have a similar holiday honoring them. Although she initially suggested June 5, her father's birthday, the pastors did not have enough time to prepare their sermons, and the celebration was deferred to the third Sunday of June

MOTHER's Day....  is a celebration honoring mothers and motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society....I know what influence my mom has on my life and being a mom of 2 boys, I know there's no better feeling than that special bond and love and giggles a mom shares with her kids...

I love being a mom!

but DID YOU KNOW... The celebration of Mother's Day began in the United States in the early 20th century; it is not related to the many celebrations of mothers and motherhood that have occurred throughout the world over thousands of years, such as the Greek cult to Cybele, the Roman festival of Hilaria, or the Christian Mothering Sunday celebration. 

The modern holiday of Mother's Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother in America. She then began a campaign to make "Mother's Day" a recognized holiday in the United States. Although she was successful in 1914, she was already disappointed with its commercialization by the 1920s. Jarvis' holiday was adopted by other countries and it is now celebrated all over the world.
In this tradition, each person offers a gift, card, or remembrance toward their mothers, grandmothers, and/ or

maternal figure on mother's day.
